Google Pixel 8: Unpacking All the Leaks and Rumors So Far

One major thing that has not changed over the years is Google’s penchant for leaking their own products; we were therefore not surprised when rumors of Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro surfaced last year. Right now, although the brand is preparing for its hardware event in October, we have already gotten a sneak preview with the product name!

Although Google is already sending out Unveil invites (just hours after Apple’s invites went out by the way) to its Made-by-Google New York city, in-person event on October 4th, 10am ET, an image slyly posted to the Google store gave credence to all the rumors about the design and camera layout of Pixel 8 Pro. While we are no stranger to Pixel phone leaks, e.g., the Pixel 4 lineup leak some years ago, the upcoming Pixel 8 leak has already given us quite a few pointers about the new flagships from Google.

What The Rumors Say About The Google Pixel 8 And 8 Pro

  • The Pixel 8 will be available in two variants: 8 and 8 Pro. These phones are expected to be among 2023’s top android phones.
  • Pixel 8 will serve as the one for the masses while 8 Pro will boast of high-end features.
  • Google will power Google Pixel 8 with its Tensor G3 processor and will look and feel like the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro versions.
  • The Pixel 8 models would boast of a 6.17 and 6.7 inch screens respectively; flat, not curved like the Pixel 7 Pro version.
  • Google Pixel 8 series would feature a different camera design, with all three cameras of the pixel 8 Pro version, in one housing, instead of the previous design of different lenses in different segments.
  • The Pixel 8 would be smaller than its Pixel 7 predecessor, boasting round corners and a 120Hz display, as well as 12 mm in thickness with the camera array included. The screen size is expected to be remarkably similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S23.
  • You would be able to check your temperature with the Pixel 8 Pro’s in- built thermometer, and new camera array.
  • Both phones are code-named Husky and Shiba, with Husky (Pixel 8 Pro) featuring 2822x1344p resolution and Shiba (Pixel 8) featuring 2268x1080p resolution.
  • All leaked photos lack a SIM card tray, so it is difficult to say if Google wants to launch a sim-less phone, like Apple did last year.
  • Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are rumored to show brightness increases, up to 1,400 nits and 1,600 nits when watching HDR content.
  • Rumors state that the Pixel 8 would have storage specs of 128 or 256GB, while the Pixel 8 Pro should have 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage.

  • Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones will feature ultrasonic fingerprint sensors instead of the contemporary optical one.
  • Both phones will run on Android 14; making them one of the first smartphones to do so. They would also have several enhanced software features such as privacy granular controls, customizable wallpapers, and camera app improvements. Rumored colors include Peony, Jade, Liquorice, and Haze for the Google Pixel 8, while the Pixel 8 Pro would come in lovely colors such as Jade, Sky, Liquorice, and Porcelain.
  • Leaks states that the Google Pixel 8 series will be able to remove background noise or voices from camera recorded videos, using an Audio Magic Eraser mode.
  • Both phones will be the first android phones to get OS upgrades for up to five generations thereby becoming a strong competitor to Apple’s fiver year iOS update commitment.
  • The leaks seem to show that battery capacities for the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will stay the same (4400mAh, and 5000mAh respectively). However, wired charging speeds should increase, with both phones supporting 12W wireless charging.
  • Pricewise, Google Pixel 8, 128GB is expected to start at EUR 874 in Europe, while the Pixel 8 Pro is expected to start at EUR 1,235. This rumor would make the Pixel 8 more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy S23 (and Ultra), and the iPhone 15 (Pro Max).

Conclusively, the Google Pixel 8 series (8 and 8 Pro) are set to be the most speculated and rumored about android phones this year. While the rumors paint a pretty picture of two sleek android phones with great specifications, we cannot wait for the unveiling in October, when all our speculations will be put to rest.
