Even though the company hasn’t said much about it officially, there have been lots of leaks and talk about what the phone might be like. So, there’s a vivid idea of what to expect. The Look

A sneak peek of the foldable gadget, thanks to a leak from a trustworthy leaker, @OnLeaks shows what one would usually expect from a folding phone made by OnePlus, plus a couple of pretty cool twists. The device seems a lot like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold in how it’s designed overall, with a few “OnePlus-y” ways it stands out.

There’s talk that the back of the device might be covered in leather. This would make the OnePlus Open phone feel and look different. Plus, it might not be as slippery as other phones that can fold.

What makes the OnePlus Open unique from other foldable phones is its special camera setup. The leaked pictures show three cameras at the back, arranged in a circle. It kinda looks like the camera design on the OnePlus 11. But here’s the twist: the flash isn’t with the cameras. It’s up in the left corner.

The OnePlus Open also still has that special button that OnePlus is known for. You can see it on the right side when the phone is folded. It’s not known how exactly the phone folds, but look at the pictures, the screens seem pretty close when it’s folded up. This might be something like what Oppo did with their Find N2 phone, where it folds up neatly with a special hinge.

The person who leaked the renders of the Open is usually trustworthy. But here’s the thing: the pictures are from a model of the phone that’s still being tested, so the final version might not look the same. Even so, these pictures give a decent idea of what the folks at OnePlus are thinking for their first foldable phone. There’s a chance that the real design will be quite close to what is being seen here. But there’s also a chance that things might change a bit before the actual launch.

Specs

The Open seems like it’s going to be the newest member on the “flagship foldable” shelf. It’s looking pretty likely that it’ll sport a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED screen inside and a smaller 6.3-inch AMOLED screen on the back. With a 120Hz refresh rate, both screens should scroll without a hitch but the inside screen might have a little difference in the refresh rates if the tech used is different.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC along with a pretty sizable 16GB RAM should have the performance aspect completely on lock. The leaks also hint at 256 gigs of internal storage, but it’s also possible for it to have different storage options. There’s no mention of the foldable having wireless charging features yet, but it might have. On the battery side, the Open could have a 4,800mAh battery and super fast 67W fast charging.

The cameras also might be bringing some heavy specs with a 48 megapixel primary sensor, a 48 megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a 64 megapixel telephoto lens. OnePlus might also add a 32 megapixel lens on the cover screen for those pretty selfies with a 20 megapixel selfie camera on the inside.

The foldable is expected to ship with the latest version of Oxygen OS 13.1 based on Android 13, but it should also be one of the first devices to receive the stable Android 14 update. All that being said, another leak disclosed the possibility of the foldable’s software being named Oxygen OS Fold.

Price

As it’s the first foldable phone by OnePlus and there haven’t been any leaks in regards to the price, there’s almost no way to figure out how much the company might charge for the foldable. But seeing that OnePlus is known for making cheaper flagships, it’s possible that it’ll be sold for a little bit more than $1,000. Other foldables like the Google Pixel Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are being sold for $1,800, and it’s typical of OnePlus to always try to beat other brands’ prices.

Wrapping It Up

Initial rumors in the air hinted that the Open would be launched on the 29th of August, but there hasn’t actually been a confirmed date for the launch. GSMArena suggests that the date might be delayed some more as the company encountered an issue with the screens.
